An Effort We Support: Support
Groups
Dealing with cancer is hard for both patients and
family members. And in many ways, our practice functions
as a very caring support group. But there are other
groups outside our office that can provide patients
and families with added information, guidance and
an unparalleled understanding of living through cancer.
Support groups are usually led by a healthcare provider
with expertise in a particular type of cancer and
open to patients as well as family members. To find
out about local support groups in your area, click
on the support group links located to the left of
your screen.
Many national cancer organizations offer
support groups for patients and/or for loved ones.
The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) offers
programs such as “I Can Cope,” “Look Good...Feel
Better,” “Man to Man,” “Reach
to Recovery” and “Road to Recovery.” Call
the Asheville chapter of The American Cancer Society
at (828) 254-6931 to find out more about programs
in the Asheville area. The office is located at 120
Executive Park, Building 1, in Asheville.
