Cancer Centers of North Carolina – Asheville
to Host Health Care Reform Discussion & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Asheville, North Carolina (February 12, 2010) — Cancer Centers of North Carolina -Asheville will host a Health Care Reform discussion and ribbon cutting ceremony with the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce from 5 – 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18 at its comprehensive cancer center in Asheville. Local physicians, health care providers and practice administrators throughout the community are invited and encouraged to attend to learn more about CCNC-A and the impact of health care reform.

Matt Brow, vice president of Government Relations and Public Policy with US Oncology, will lead the Health Care Reform discussion and address the following issues facing the medical community:

  • Key trends in health care reform
  • Likely outcomes of the legislative process
  • Reform pros/cons for physician practices
  • Accountable care organizations (ACOs) – what they are, what they are not and the potential for additional opportunities in Medicare payment
  • How to survive and thrive in a reformed health care environment
  • “The impact of health care reform and legislative actions in Washington will make dramatic changes in how we deliver services to our patients and the payments we receive for those services,” said Dr. Don Jackson, medical oncologist and practice president with CCNC-A. “Matt Brow is well respected in Washington and we are excited to have him present and update the community about the future of health care.”

    Brow directs the activities of the Government Relations & Public Policy staff for US Oncology. He leads the network’s federal and state legislative and regulatory initiatives, oversees all network government affairs, public outreach and grassroots advocacy efforts in support of the network’s federal and state public policy goals. He is recognized as an influential figure in Washington regarding health care reform and legislation.

    The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and welcome CCNC-A as an official member of the chamber.

    The event will be held at CCNC-A’s 24,000-square-foot comprehensive cancer center located in Regional Medical Park, in Asheville. This is the only facility in Western North Carolina that provides integrated cancer care in one easy-to-access location. Medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, chemotherapy, radiation services, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, and laboratory services, among others, are all provided in one location. This comprehensive cancer care model improves patient access to advanced care – making it easier for the patient to navigate services, maximizes collaboration between cancer specialists, and ultimately helps decrease costs.

    CCNC-A’s dedicated team of oncologists, Dr. Jackson, Dr. Shonda Asaad, Dr. Anita Deshpande, Dr. Narinder Malhotra and Dr. Raymond Thertulien work closely with radiation oncologist Dr. Roger Holland and his radiation therapy team to customize each patient’s individual treatment plan.

    CCNC-A is United in Healing with US Oncology, which supports the nation’s foremost cancer treatment and research network, including more than 1,300 oncologists and more than 10,000 clinicians and cancer experts. The construction of the CCNC-A facility and daily operations are made possible through the practice’s affiliation with US Oncology.
