Improve Your Odds with the Most
Advanced Treatments
Medical Oncology
Medical oncology is a service provided by our caring
team of oncologists and oncology nurses. At Cancer Centers of North Carolina-Asheville,
we are highly experienced, knowledgeable and genuinely
empathetic. We pride ourselves on staying up to
date on the most advanced treatments and clinical
trials, and then suggesting the most appropriate.
Further, we take a genuine interest in each patient,
and work hard to help fulfill their every need.
We also make a special effort to educate our patients
and their families about various cancers and the
side effects of treatment.
Radiation Oncology
The Radiation Therapy Team is made up of several medical professionals led by the Radiation Oncologist (a physician who specializes in the use of radiation therapy to treat cancer), and includes a Medical Physicist, Dosimetrist, Radiation Therapists, and a Radiation Oncology Nurse.
When the Radiation Oncologist determines radiation to be an appropriate therapy, your physician working with our radiation team develops a treatment plan using sophisticated imaging and radiation technologies. CCNC-Asheville can offer modern techniques, including CT simulation, 3D Conformal Therapy, and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), a state-of-the-art treatment, gives the Radiation Oncologist the ability to "shape" the radiation dose to conform to the tumor, sparing the adjacent healthy tissue. Tumors are irregularly shaped, and IMRT technology allows higher radiation doses to be focused to regions within the tumor with more precision and accuracy. This technology allows the Radiation Oncologist to aim higher doses of radiation at your cancer while reducing the radiation to nearby healthy tissue.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a systematic treatment for cancer.
The side effects can vary depending on the drug
regimen received. Throughout treatment, our healthcare
team closely monitors patients. In other words,
we're there with you every step of the way, helping
you handle your treatments physically and emotionally.
Hematology
Hematology is the study of blood and blood-forming
tissues, and the study of the nature, function
and diseases of the blood and of blood-forming
organs. Cancer Centers of North Carolina-Asheville has some of the most experienced,
highly regarded hematologists in the Blue Ridge
mountains. They deal with diseases such as leukemia,
coagulative disorders like hemophilia, Hodgkin's
disease, multiple myeloma and lymphoma.
Clinical Laboratory
Services
Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role
in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
Our clinical laboratory (or medical) technologists
and technicians perform most of these tests. At
Cancer Centers of North Carolina-Asheville, their years of experience make
them experts. When they examine and analyze blood
and other body fluids with state-of-the-art equipment,
they provide us with a vast amount of critical
information. These reports enable our physicians
to prescribe the best therapy for you.
Oncology Pharmacy
The advantages of our on-site oncology pharmacy include comprehensive patient education, continuity of care and convenience. The services provided include mixing chemotherapy products for our offices, providing take-home prescriptions and filling research prescriptions. It also provides support to the physicians and nurses, allowing them to perform more complicated therapies in the outpatient setting rather than in the hospital.
On-site pharmacies help to reduce healthcare costs and improved patient satisfaction. The positive results of continuous pharmacological supervision mean that an on-site pharmacy is a real benefit to our patients, as it improves our level of care.
